Unihertz says the Titan Slim should work on T-Mobile's and Verizon's 4G networks. Sometimes those details surface on the company's Kickstarter page, so I don't count out future updates.
Shattered pixel dungeon torches upgrade#
The phone runs Android 11, but Unihertz hasn't specified an upgrade commitment. I would prefer a faster rate of charging than 10W, though. Helpfully, Unihertz phones show the battery percentage in the status bar by default. I got 8 hours and 20 minutes of screen-on time at maximum brightness on the 4,100mAh battery.

This is still a big improvement over the gaming experience of the Titan Pocket, however, on which text and buttons are often too small to use.īattery life is fine and is likely to improve with further software optimizations. I played casual games such as Pixel Dungeon and Alto's Odyssey without a hitch, but I don't recommend trying to run an intense game like Genshin Impact. The best games to play here are simple ones that can be used in portrait mode, like Shattered Pixel DungeonĪlthough the Titan Slim has no issues handling basic UI tasks such as switching apps and typing, the process of installing apps takes noticeably longer than on even a midrange phone like the Samsung Galaxy A53. That's not to say you can't get used to it, however. But doing so increases the likelihood of accidentally hitting the next key over. While I typically use my fingernails to hit the Bold's keys, the slightly larger size of the Titan Slim's makes me want to use the tips or pads of my fingers to hit them. The Titan Slim's keys are bigger than the Bold's, but a little harder to press and less snappy so it's a bit easier to mistype on them. I own an old BlackBerry Bold, so that's what I use as a point of comparison. The keyboard here is the same as the one on the Titan Pocket: a four-row deck with sculpted keys and a problematic top row. You can't type without looking on a touch-screen keyboard after all, because software keyboards can't help you build up muscle memory. But some people still love and miss those little buttons. Hardware QWERTY keyboards were once the norm, but that trend died in the wake of more accurate touch screens and better predictive-text software. Of course, the star of the Titan Slim is the keyboard. The Slim part of the name doesn't refer to the thickness of the phone, but to the narrowness The Titan Slim is also not at all water resistant and can't match the rugged build quality of the Titan Pocket. Notably, you don't get a 3.5mm headphone jack or a microSD card slot. The single speaker is on the bottom and a multicolored notification LED is above the screen. That said, the phone's curved, almost cylindrical sides make it easy to hold.Ī power button and volume rocker sit on the right, while a programmable button and two SIM card slots grace the left side. Again, despite the name, the handset is a bit thicker and heavier than most other modern small phones including the Samsung Galaxy S22 (5.75 by 2.78 by 0.29 inches, 5.9 ounces) and the Apple iPhone SE (2.65 by 5.45 by 0.29 inches, 5.2 ounces). The black plastic phone measures 5.79 by 2.67 by 0.51 inches (HWD) and weighs 7.2 ounces. The Titan Slim's name is a bit of a misnomer considering the phone is more narrow than it is slim, but we like that it's skinny enough that you can easily type with one hand. Shattered pixel dungeon torches update#
I'll update this story once I get a chance to test the final shipping product. The model we tested for this preview is running preproduction hardware and software.

The company hasn't revealed the phone's price, but based on my experience with the brand, I expect it to fall between $200 and $300 during the preorder phase. Just don’t expect an executive-level experience, as the phone's performance isn’t competitive with most recent midrange models.īefore we go any farther, note that the Titan Slim is going on presale soon at Kickstarter and Unihertz plans to bring it to market later this spring. Keyboard aside, we’re fans of the phone’s small design and its more usable screen than the one on the Titan Pocket. More importantly, the Titan Slim is likely the closest we're going to get to a successor to the BlackBerry Key2 LE. How desperately do you want a physical keyboard on your Android phone? The Unihertz Titan Slim, an unlocked QWERTY slab, joins the Titan Pocket in the company's lineup of affordable handsets for people who prefer to type fast on tiny keys.
